Ryan to Receive Icon Award

Thomas N. Ryan, an attorney and Managing Partner of Laddey, Clark & Ryan, LLP, based in Sparta, is a recipient of the NJBIZ Icon Awards, which honors business leaders over the age of 60 who have helped – and continue to help – grow and encourage New Jersey’s economic development and business community.  It recognizes New Jersey business leaders for their demonstration of strong leadership both within and outside of their chosen field.

Mr. Ryan is one of the 29 award recipients from across the state – and one of only six attorneys – who will be honored on August 23 at the Palace at Somerset Park.  An independent panel of judges selected these individuals for the outstanding contributions they have made to the state of New Jersey, both in their industry and the community.

Mr. Ryan is an employment and commercial litigator, business and government services lawyer who focuses on representing management and individuals in both the private and public sectors.  He has litigated cases in both the New Jersey State Superior Courts and in the Federal District Courts.  He has long been – and continues to be – a leader in the legal community and the business community, as well as in community service.

Mr. Ryan was one of the founders of Laddey Clark & Ryan in 1989 and, along with his law partner, Andrew Fraser, has grown the firm into a leading law practice in Northwest New Jersey.  He serves as Municipal Attorney for Sparta Township, General Counsel for the Sussex Rural Electric Cooperative (the only such cooperative in New Jersey), outside General Counsel and Secretary of the Board of Directors of Atlas Refinery, Inc. and Outside Litigation Counsel to Weichert Co.

He has also been a leader in the legal community in many ways.  He is a Past President of the Sussex County Bar Association and continues to be an active member.  He also is a Master Emeritus of the Sydney Reitman Employment Law Inn of Court.  He is a member of the Labor and Employment Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Morris County Bar Association.

Mr. Ryan continues to play a leading role in the Sussex County business community.  He was installed as Chair of the Sussex County Economic Development Partnership earlier this year and has long been active in the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce, currently chairing its Human Resources Committee.  In addition, Mr. Ryan serves as a Trustee and Secretary on the Board of Trustees of Newton Medical Center Foundation and as a Trustee and Secretary of the Board of Trustees and Chair of The 200 Club of Sussex County.  He is also Chair of The 200 Club’s Scholarship Committee.  He is legal counsel to – and formerly on the Board of Trustees – the Medical Needs Foundation.  Mr. Ryan is a former member and President of the Mountain Lakes Board of Education.
