Compensation is always an important part of the employer arsenal. In 2023, this might be more true than ever. Due to a variety of factors – chief among them rising inflation and changing employee expectations – it is anticipated that employers will need to be making larger-than-usual salary increases in 2023. Despite rising concerns about a potential recession, employers are still having a hard time filling open positions. In recent months, job postings remain 50% above their pre-COVID rates.

Compensation, of course, involves more than just pay. Employee pay and factors such as hours worked, benefits, leave and other legal requirements are continuing challenges to employers. In this program, Laddey Clark & Ryan’s Employment and Labor Law attorneys will review state and federal wage and hour laws and employer obligations, and provide human resource professionals with guidance on:

  • Wage & Hour Laws
  • Paid Sick Leave Laws
  • Diane B. Allen Equal Pay Act
  • Employer obligations regarding hiring and compensating “volunteers,” interns and minors
  • Paying employees, including exempt and non-exempt classifications
  • Calculating hours worked
  • Determining employee entitlement to overtime compensation, computing overtime and overtime exemptions
  • Minimum wage requirements and exemptions
