Day of Service Helps Students' Higher Education

Laddey, Clark & Ryan’s Day of Service Program Helps the Community

On June 29, 2017, Wendy Brick, a Legal Assistant at the law firm of Laddey, Clark & Ryan, completed a day of service on behalf of the firm at The John Cocula Memorial Scholarship Golf Outing.  The golf outing, the main fundraiser for The John Cocula Memorial Scholarship Fund, provides scholarships to academically driven high school students in Garfield and Vernon, and students who attend Sussex County Community College. To date the scholarship fund has awarded over $330,000 in scholarships.

“I chose to volunteer at the golf outing for a variety of reasons including the impact to the community, and as someone who is very familiar with the high cost of a college education, I know that scholarships can make the difference for high school students who aspire to become college graduates but may not have the means,” said Wendy Brick.

“We are proud of Wendy and we are eager to see what other projects our employees engage in as part of our Day of Service program,” says Robbin Dolan, LCR’s Executive Director.  “Wendy may have gotten the ball rolling but we hope every employee will take the opportunity to perform a Day of Service for the charity of their choice.”

In January 2017, when Tom Ryan, the Managing Partner of Laddey, Clark & Ryan, issued a formal policy for a Day of Service program he did not know what types of community activities the employees would engage in.  However, he knew the employees, local community, friends and neighbors would benefit.

“This policy created an opportunity to give employees the unique chance to have an unforgettable volunteer experience that makes a difference in the community, while also experiencing the benefits of volunteerism,” said Tom Ryan.  “It is important for our employees to find projects that are both meaningful to the community and to them, and be in line with LCR’s community engagement philosophy.”

LCR’s Day of Service is part of a growing trend for corporate volunteer programs that engages employees by providing a meaningful and valuable experience that gives back to the community.
